Today, it presents itself as a blend of 85% Nebbiolo, 10% Barbera, and 5% Merlot, but it hasn’t always been this way. In the past, it was one-third of each grape variety. A blend that expressed the freedom of the production regulations as much as the freedom of thought before Gaja‘s vision of planting international varieties in the Langhe. Today, this freedom remains, but with a renewed and amplified focus on preservation. The wine undergoes fermentation and aging in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, followed by 12 months in barriques and a few more months in the bottle before being released.
Sito Moresco derives its name (Moresco) from the previous owner, from whom Angelo Gaja purchased the vineyard in 1979 where this wine is produced. This red wine embodies great elegance, combining the complexity and longevity of Nebbiolo with a contemporary drinkability. In this vibrant, powerful vintage, the wine brilliantly showcases its character, acting like a mirror that reflects the essence of the three grape varieties, delivering a smooth, enveloping, and lively profile.
