Josetta Saffirio Milenovecento48 Barolo Castelletto Riserva 2018 – Barolo Riserva

The wine has a pale ruby color, with garnet highlights. The first nose expresses tertiary notes of wet leaves, dried rose and tobacco, combined with sweet spices (ground cumin, nutmeg and white pepper), a chocolatey nuance (cocoa, dark chocolate with dried cherry) and notes of dried herbs (dried mint, dried rosemary, crushed wild mint). There is also a light mineral touch of tar, a fresh floral bouquet and a juicy fruity material (fresh raspberry, wild strawberry, roasted red cherry, morello cherry, cranberries). The palate is expressive and tasty, with a fruity attack (macerated red cherry, morello cherry, strawberry, crushed raspberry), enveloped tertiary notes (dried rose, wilted peony, wet leaves), some spiciness (nutmeg, liquorice, a touch of sweet pepper) and notes of chocolate (cocoa, dark chocolate). The finish is persistent and savory, with notes of roasting (coffee, a hint of smoke and toasted wood) and fresh cherry, as well as the tertiary side that returns on the persistence. Tannins are structured and enveloped, the acidity is salivating and fresh. An evolved wine, warming, but with balance and potential.
