Jean-Baptiste Granier, Les Vignes Oubliées – 2020, Terrasses de Larzac

The wine has a bright ruby color of medium intensity. The nose has a medium (+) intensity and a nice complexity, with fruity, spicy, very slightly woody, herbaceous and mineral notes. It expresses in particular the sweetness of red cherries, raspberries, ripe and sweet Charlotte strawberries, as well as in coulis, underlined by the liveliness and acidity of blueberry and blackcurrant. On the second nose, mineral notes appear (wet stone), sweet spices (very slight hint of nutmeg), dried herbs (rosemary branch), and a hint of forest flour. On the palate, the wine is round, but tense, with a medium body, a well-defined tannic structure, and a chewy tannin texture. The finish is long, a little tight at the beginning, but open and complex at the end, with a nice freshness thanks to the medium (+) acidity. The wine expresses a bouquet of red and black fruits (wild blackberry, morello cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry coulis), herbaceous notes (peppermint, bay leaf, thyme), and very slight notes of forest leaves. A wine with good concentration, complexity and precision.
