Il Botolo 2018 – Nizza

Il Botolo 2018 – Nizza

The wine has a medium-intensity ruby color with slight garnet reflections. The nose offers concentration, gourmandise and ripe fruit, with delicate sweet and jammy touches. It expresses aromas of ripe morello cherry, cherry jam, red cherry, dried red cherry, blackcurrant, raspberry jam and redcurrant. After aeration, we find tertiary notes of dried tobacco and undergrowth, a touch of smoke, as well as roasting (toasted almond, toasted almond, dark chocolate, coffee) well integrated and wrapped in the fruit. The spicy side is savoury and delicate – we can smell the aromas of black pepper, liquorice, coriander seeds and ground cumin, as well as a very discreet hint of crushed vanilla in the background. A subtle floral bouquet (dried rose, iris, a hint of peony) and herbaceous (peppery hint, rosemary, dried pine needles) completes the wine’s profile. The palate is silky, with enveloping but very fine tannins. The attack is gourmet, fruity and expresses the flavors of fresh and dried fruits (dried blackcurrant, fresh blackcurrant, morello cherry, blackberry, black plum, dried red cherry, raspberry coulis), associated with herbaceous notes (dried thyme, rosemary, peppermint), a hint of dried rose, roasting (toasted almond, coffee, dark chocolate) and sweet spices (liquorice, toasted vanilla, black pepper, cumin). Good length on a pleasant bitterness of coffee and bergamot (with a smoky hint), refreshed by a salivating acidity.
