Ettore Germano, Lazzarito Riserva 2018 – Barolo

The wine has a pale ruby color, with slight garnet reflections. The nose is delicately perfumed and complex. The first nose is subtle and floral – it expresses notes of fresh rose petals, lily, pistil and pollen, as well as a fine spiciness (liquorice, clove, a touch of cumin), tertiary touches undergrowth, tobacco, faded rose and wet leaves, as well as a fresh and juicy fruitiness (crushed raspberry, wild strawberry, cranberry juice, red cherry, crushed blueberry and a very delicate touch of blood orange peel in the background) and a hint of peppermint. The palate is tight, with good bitterness and slightly drying tannins. The flavors are quite expressive and juicy: we find notes of crushed strawberry, raspberry, cranberry juice, crushed wild blueberry, associated with a fine spiciness (nutmeg, liquorice, ground cumin) and tertiary hints (withered rose, undergrowth, tobacco, a hint of wet leaves which we find especially in the finish), as well as notes of flowers and herbs (lily, lilac, dried mint). The finish is sapid and persistent, a little dry (due to the firm tannins) with a lively acidity and a delicious touch of chocolate.
