Ettore Germano, Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba 2020 – Barolo

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose offers depth and concentration, even a textured touch. It initially expresses smoky notes (with a slight hint of smoked meat), spicy and floral notes (especially dried or wilted flowers), which are then complemented by notes of fresh and macerated fruit. We find in particular the aromas of faded rose, lilac, iris, associated with touches of dried mint, rosemary leaves, a hint of walnut and nutmeg in the background, cumin and liquorice, and enveloped in a juicy and concentrated fruitiness (crushed black plum, fresh ripe wood, morello cherry, a touch of blackcurrant in the background, raspberry and blueberry), as well as a gourmand touch of chocolate and a hint of torrefaction. The palate is expressive, with lots of flavors and intensity, as well as a tight tannic structure and good bitterness. It expresses notes of bigarreau cherry, raspberry, cranberries, blueberry and blackcurrant in the background, associated with notes of faded rose, dried peony, faded lilac, as well as herbaceous touches of tobacco and dried mint, sweet spices (nutmeg, liquorice, a very delicate hint of cinnamon in the background). Good length, the tannins are firm, slightly rough, but balanced by a salivating acidity.
