Ellena Guiseppe Barolo Ascheri 2020 – Barolo

Ellena Guiseppe Barolo Ascheri 2020 – Barolo

The wine has a pale ruby color, with slight garnet reflections. The nose is reserved at first and requires aeration. It then expresses a distinguished minerality (limestone, wet stone, a touch of graphite), some woodiness in aromas of heated wood, toasted hazelnut and sweet spices (nutmeg, ground cumin, liquorice and white pepper in the background), combined with notes of dried mint, fresh rosemary, fresh tobacco, wild rose and peony, as well as juicy fruits (bigarreau cherry, red currant, raspberry, a touch of blueberry and blackcurrant in the background). On the palate, the wine expresses the woody notes  on the attack (toasted wood, toasted hazelnut, toasted bread in the background), which is complemented by spicy (licorice, a touch of toasted vanilla, nutmeg and white pepper), herbaceous (fresh tobacco, dried mint), floral (wild rose, lilac) and fruity notes (dried bigarreau cherry, a touch of morello cherry, crushed raspberry, red currants). The finish is persistent and savoury, with gourmet notes of cocoa and chocolate cherry. The tannins are enveloping, powdery and fine, but structured, balanced by a beautiful acidity. Good persistence in the mouth, gourmand and sapid.
