Domaine Sylvain Bailly Chêne Marchand 2022 – Sancerre

The wine has a lemon yellow color of medium intensity. The nose is expressive, racy and mineral. On the first nose, we smell the smoky aromas of flint, wet chalk and dry stone, associated on the second nose with tangy notes of lemon zest, lime zest, grapefruit juice and green apple. We also find aromas of crunchy apricot, white peach, white flowers (lily, hawthorn, dried lime) and a hint of wax. The palate is savoury, expressive, with notes of fresh stone fruits, which bring gourmandise and notes of citrus, which offer freshness. At the end of the palate, we find the minerality especially in the calcareous notes, rather than the smokiness of gunflint (which is less expressive on the palate). The finish is long, lively, with salivating acidity and good bitterness. The wine expresses the flavors of candied lemon peel and a touch of chalk on the persistence. A straight, fresh, mineral wine, which offers a beautiful expression of the terroir.
