Domaine Roger Belland Clos Roussots 2022 – Maranges 1er Cru

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose offers depth, good concentration and complexity. It first expresses smoky, slightly meaty notes, aromas of sweet spices (nutmeg, white pepper, liquorice and vanilla in the background), then complemented by the aromas of red cherry, juicy morello cherry, crushed raspberry, fresh red currant, crunchy strawberry, a touch of torrefaction (toasted hazelnut) in the background, dried mint and a subtle hint of peony and cornflower. The palate is juicy, supple and textured, with an aromatic fruity substance and fine, velvety tannins, even slightly chocolatey on the finish. It expresses notes of crushed morello cherry, red chocolate cherry, blueberry, wild strawberry, redcurrant jelly, as well as a fine spiciness (liquorice, white pepper, clove), floral (peony, cornflower) and herbaceous hints. There is also a touch of dark chocolate and dried mint in the background. The finish is gourmand, fresh and fruity, with a nice salivating acidity and perceptible, but enveloped, tannins.
