Domaine Filliatreau, Vieilles Vignes 2020 – Saumur – Champigny

The wine has a bright ruby color. The nose is refined and offers great concentration, lots of freshness, as well as complexity. It expresses notes of tangy fresh red fruits (red cherry, raspberry, fresh cranberries, strawberry), a touch of black fruits (crushed blackcurrant, blueberry), a subtle herbaceous side (wild mint, blackcurrant leaf), as well as a elegant floral bouquet (violet, wild rose, lilac, lily of the valley), a fine spiciness (licorice, nutmeg, cumin) and a hint of tobacco and black tea in the background. The palate offers straightness, good concentration, freshness and firm tannins, a little grainy, but not drying. The flavors are juicy and gourmand. We find notes of red cherry, morello cherry, strawberry, crushed raspberry, fresh red currant, blackcurrant, as well as a touch of blackcurrant leaf, violet, wild rose, lilac and lily of the valley, combined with a fine spicy side (a hint of liquorice and cumin). The finishish is persistent, tannic, but balanced by juicy fruit flavors. A structured, refined and promising wine.
