Domaine Battault Maranges 1er Cru « La Fussière » 2022 – Maranges

The wine has a pale ruby color. The nose appears closed at first, but offers a certain concentration and complexity. It expresses notes of tart red cherry, crushed raspberry, cranberry, crushed cassis, and blueberry. Then, it expresses the minty notes of licorice, dried mint, as well as nutmeg, toasted hazelnut, and tangy dark chocolate in the background, combined with an airy floral aroma (peony, violet). The palate is straight, precise, and chiseled, with tangy notes of red cherry, raspberry, and cranberry on the attack, which are then complemented by notes of cassis and tangy strawberry. There are also sappy touches of pine bark, licorice, as well as toast, cocoa, aromatic herbs (dried mint, a hint of cassis bud), and violet in the background. Tannins are firm, tight, even a little grainy. The finish is persistent, tight, with a good bitterness, balanced by a salivating acidity.
