Château de Sales 2021 – Pomerol

Château de Sales 2021 – Pomerol

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is expressive and flavorful, with distinct aromas of spices and torrefaction. It expresses the aromas of liquorice, roasted coriander seeds, nutmeg, ground cumin, toasted vanilla (in the background) associated with notes of smoke, toasted hazelnut and toasted wood (in the background), enveloped by a juicy and dense, but fresh fruitiness. We find in particular the aromas of morello cherry, red cherry, black plum, blackberry and blackcurrant, complemented by a sweetness of raspberry coulis and the freshness of herbs and flowers (wild mint, violet, a hint of peony). The mouth is silky, gourmand and enveloping. The attack is fruity, round and chocolatey. Then, the wine expresses notes of ripe morello cherry, wild strawberry, black plum (even with a hint of plum cream), raspberry coulis, blackberry and blackcurrant, associated with notes of morello cherry in chocolate, bitter cocoa, with some spiciness harmoniously integrated into the profile of the wine (notes of white pepper, liquorice, grilled vanilla and nutmeg). We also find notes of torrefaction (coffee, toasted hazelnut, toasted wood) and flowers (violet, peony). The tannins are melted and silky, even chocolatey, but structured. The finish is gourmand, juicy and fruity, with refreshing acidity and good length. A well-constructed wine, but gourmand and already accessible.
