The wine has a ruby colour of medium intensity. The nose offers elegance, complexity and depth. It expresses notes of juicy black fruits (blackberry, black plum, blueberry, Morello cherry) and tangy red fruits (red cherry, crushed strawberry, raspberry coulis). On the second nose, the wine offers refined notes of liquorice and star anise, with a slight smoky, floral (dried rose, cornflower, lily) and roasted meat flavour. On the palate, the wine is complex, refined and concentrated. The flavours are juicy and ripe: there are notes of fresh and candied black fruits (fresh blackberry, blackberry jam, Morello cherry, blueberry), the acidity of red fruits (Bigarreau cherry, raspberry coulis, red currant) and very pleasant savoury notes that add to the complexity of the wine. Smoky, liquorice, roasted notes (ground coffee, toast), a hint of roasted meat (almost leathery), and herbaceous hints of dried peppermint and chopped wild mint are all present. The tannins are quite powerful, but fine and velvety. Nice roundness on the palate, with a persistent finish of fresh liquorice and peppermint. A wine with a firm structure, which gives it good ageing potential and pleasant roundness and juiciness that make it accessible in its youth.
