Château Carbonnieux 2022 – Pessac-Léognan, Grand Cru Classé

The nose offers gourmandise and concentration, pleasant chocolatey and spicy side (dark chocolate, morello cherry in chocolate, grilled vanilla, liquorice, cubeb pepper), which are complemented by a smoky and mineral side (dry stone, graphite), dense ripe fruits and tanginess on the nose (cassis, bird cherry, morello cherry, bigarreau cherry, roasted red cherry, roasted raspberry) as well as fresh tobacco, a hint of dried mint, violet and cornflower. We also feel the toasted side of coffee, toasted hazelnut and bitter almond in the background. The palate is harmonious, enveloping and airy, on fruity flavours of cassis, bird cherry, morello cherry, bigarreau cherry, roasted raspberry, with the attack on roasted red cherry and chocolate morello cherry. Then, we find notes of toasted hazelnut, bitter chocolate, coffee, dried peppermint, sweet spices (liquorice, nutmeg, hint of vanilla and cubeb pepper). Beautiful structure in the mouth with solid but sapid, cocoa and gourmand tannins. Good bitterness of almond, coffee, even grapefruit and a salivating acidity. Elegance and freshness. Good length on the roasted fruit side and toasted hazelnut.
