Cerrino, Meruzzano 2021 – Barbaresco

Cerrino, Meruzzano 2021 – Barbaresco

The wine has a pale ruby color. The nose is gourmand, dense and offers a certain depth in its fruity material. It first expresses the savoury spicy notes (liquorice, even star anise, freshly grated nutmeg, box of crushed cardamom), associated with an expressive and fresh minty and herbaceous hints (fresh bay leaf, wild mint, even a hint of eucalyptus), complemented by floral notes (thyme flower, peony). There are also delicate touches of roasting (toasted hazelnut, a hint of toasted wood). The palate is sapid, expressive, with a juicy and tangy attack (red cherry, cranberries, raspberry, crunchy strawberry), as well as a good bitterness of dried grapefruit and roasting (coffee, bitter cocoa, toasted almond). There is also a herbaceous note (dried blackcurrant leaf, bergamot tea with a fine smokiness) and spiciness (liquorice, a hint of black pepper). Tannins are firm and grippy, even drying, but softened by a salivating acidity and the liveliness of the fruit. Good persistence in the mouth with notes of toasted bitter almond and dried mint in the background. The wine needs time to open up, but has good potential and energy.
