Castiglion del Bosco Campo del Drago 2020 – Brunello di Montalcino

The nose is dense, concentrated, very gourmand, even sweet – it expresses notes of ripe morello cherry, red cherry jam, crushed blackberry, wild strawberry, morello cherry in chocolate, ripe black plum, balanced by the bitterness of dark chocolate, as well as an expressive herbaceous and spicy hint and enveloped notes of dried rosemary, thyme, crushed peppermint, dried basil, a hint of tobacco, as well as liquorice, toasted vanilla in the background, cumin, nutmeg and a hint of roasting (toasted hazelnut in chocolate, bitter almond, coffee). The palate is sapid, expressive, on a savoury spiciness in attack (nutmeg, liquorice, white pepper), associated with a fresh fruitiness (ripe morello cherry, red cherry, blackberry, wild strawberry, ripe black plum), complemented by the bitterness of cranberries and bird cherry, as well as by herbaceous notes (rosemary, thyme, peppermint, dried basil, fresh tobacco) and a hint of liquorice and vanilla. The tannins are finely tight, slightly bitter. Good length and fresh acidity.
