Castello di Meleto, Casi 2019 – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The first nose expresses freshness and a chiseled hint of tangy red and black fruits (crunchy strawberry, wild raspberry, red currant, bigarreau cherry, fresh blackcurrant and crushed blueberry) with a touch of cranberry bitterness and a delicate balsamic nuance. We then find herbaceous aromas of fresh basil, fresh peppermint, cut rosemary and fresh bay leaf, spicy notes which appear after aeration (clove, cumin, a touch of liquorice and star anise in the background), a pleasant sweetness of crushed vanilla and cocoa, as well as a fragrant floral bouquet (iris, peony, fresh rose). The palate is chiselled, firm, slightly bitter on the attack, but well-structured and fresh. The tannins are velvety and melted, a little dry on the finish, but enveloped in a beautiful salivating acidity. The wine expresses the tangy flavors of cranberries, red currant, bigarreau cherry, crushed raspberry, fresh blackcurrant and crunchy strawberry, complemented by notes of fresh basil, a slightly woody touch of rosemary, a delicate spiciness of mint peppery, complemented by spicy touches of clove, cumin, liquorice, a fine sweetness of vanilla and fresh flowers (iris, peony, rose and violet in the background) and a hint of balsamic on the finish. The finish is quite persistent, aromatic and fruity, with a pleasant bitterness and acidity of bergamot. A firm, refined wine that needs time to open up.
