Castello di Bolgheri 2021 – Bolgheri Superiore

The wine has a deep ruby color. The wine is a little reserved on the nose and requires aeration. It then expresses savoury and gourmet notes of ripe fruit (even crushed fruit), sweet spices and torrefaction. We find in particular the aromas of juicy morello cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry coulis, crushed blackcurrant, red currant jelly and black plum, associated with notes of fresh vanilla, liquorice (even star anise), nutmeg, toasted almond and dark chocolate, balanced by notes of peppermint, resinous touches of pine sap and pine needles, balsamic, fresh rose and violet, with a delicate saline minerality background. The palate is silky, full and fresh, balanced by a salivating acidity and a good bitterness on the finish. It expresses notes of black plum, morello cherry, candied red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry coulis and redcurrant jelly, combined with pronounced floral scents of fresh rose and peony, as well as touches of sweet spices (vanilla, liquorice, nutmeg, white pepper), bitter chocolate, aromatic herbs (peppermint, rosemary), a resinous hint of pine needles and a fine minerality (salinity, graphite). The tannins are tight, a bit rough, but balanced by a salivating acidity and a juicy fruitiness. The finish is persistent, gourmand, with a good bitterness of dark chocolate.
