Castelli del Grevepesa, Clemente VII 2019 – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is reserved at first and requires ventilation. It then expresses notes of tangy fruits (bigarreau cherry, raspberry, strawberry), ripe black fruits (morello cherry, blackcurrant, blueberry, cherry morello cherry), associated with savoury herbaceous notes (dried thyme, rosemary, dried bay leaf, peppermint, dried basil), a fine floral bouquet (dried rose, dried cornflower, fresh peony, lily), notes of sweet spices (licorice, cumin, cloves, nutmeg, white pepper) and torrefaction (coffee sweet, heated oak, toasted bread), as well as a touch of balsamic, tobacco and undergrowth in the background. The palate is juicy, gourmand, with a pronounced savory spiciness. It expresses in particular the flavors of clove, ground cumin, white pepper, liquorice and coriander seeds, associated with a ripe and fleshy fruitiness (the flavors of morello cherry, wild blackberry, crushed blackcurrant, strawberry wood, red cherry in kirsch, raspberry coulis and wild plum), with refreshing herbaceous notes (wild mint, basil, thyme, rosemary), with a gourmand hint of chocolate (cherry in chocolate, dark chocolate), as well as with floral hints (dried rose, lily, peony) and notes of torrefaction (mild coffee, toasted oak, toasted hazelnut). The tannins are enveloping, melted and soft, with a fine texture and a firm structure. The finish is persistent, with gourmand notes of cherry in chocolate, chocolate with mint and a nice acidity.
