Capraia, Effe 55, 2019 – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose offers concentration, depth and at the same time – delicacy and freshness. It expresses refined herbaceous notes: crushed mint leaves, rosemary, thyme, blackcurrant leaf in the background, a fine spiciness (liquorice, cumin, cloves, black pepper, coriander seeds), associated with notes of dried flowers (dried rose, dried peony, dried wildflowers), a touch of fresh tobacco, undergrowth, a smoky hint of oregano, as well as a touch of cocoa and coffee. The fruity substance on the nose is complex and refined and combines notes of tangy fresh fruits (bigarreau cherry, raspberry, cranberries), with juicy ripe fruits (crushed blackcurrant, wild strawberry, blackberry) and dried fruits (dried red cherry, dried raspberry). The palate is gourmand and offers intense flavors of ripe and jammy fruits (ripe morello cherry, red cherry jam, crushed blackberry, crushed blackcurrant, raspberry coulis), cherry in chocolate, prunes in chocolate, as well as a savoury spiciness (liquorice, cinnamon, grilled vanilla, nutmeg, clove), refreshing notes of aromatic herbs (dried wild mint, rosemary, thyme, dried basil, sage in the background) and fresh flowers (rose, iris, peony). There are also touches of dark chocolate, cocoa, fresh tobacco and dry black tea in the background. The tannins are firm, powerful, but have a fine grain and a refined, melted texture. The finish is persistent and refreshing, thanks to a nice acidity.
