Campogiovanni Il Quercione 2019 – Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

The nose is aromatic, savoury, expressive and spicy, with distinct tertiary touches of dry tobacco, dry leaves, a touch of dried rose and undergrowth. Then, it expresses notes of ripe, roasted and dried fresh fruits (crushed morello cherry, roasted red cherry, dried red cherry), sweet spices (nutmeg, dried liquorice, cardamom), cocoa, mint chocolate, a herbaceous and menthol hint (dried mint, dried pine needles, thyme, a hint of rosemary), a touch of crushed black plum, as well as peony and dried cornflower, balsamic and a hint of tapenade. The palate is juicy, straight, dense and offers accuracy, a good bitterness of bird cherry, flavors of fresh tangy fruits (morello cherry, red cherry, cranberries, raspberry), associated with herbaceous notes that bring freshness (crushed mint leaves, blackcurrant leaf in the background, pine needles), sweet spices (nutmeg, dried liquorice, cardamom), as well as light notes of undergrowth and tobacco. The tannins are firm, tight and grippy. Good fruity material, tension, a good bitterness of bird cherry and coffee on the persistence. Firmness and freshness with complexity, juiciness and a fresh fruitiness. A fairly balanced wine, but tight and closed, which still needs to soften.
