Bibiano, Vigna del Capannino 2020 – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is reserved at first and requires aeration. It then expresses notes of ripe red fruits (bigarreau cherry, crunchy strawberry, crushed raspberry, fresh morello cherry, red currants, blueberry, crushed blackcurrant), associated with a pronounced but integrated spiciness (liquorice, ground cumin, cloves, white pepper, a hint of cinnamon, toasted vanilla), notes of torrefaction (coffee, toasted hazelnut, a touch of smoke), dried herbs (dried mint, dried basil, dried bay leaf), tapenade, fresh tobacco, a hint of balsamic and dried wildflowers. The palate offers a juicy and round attack, a tannic and tight mid-palate and an aromatic and tangy finish. It expresses the flavors of crushed blackcurrant, juicy morello cherry, crunchy wild strawberry, crushed raspberry, wild blueberry, cranberries and tangy bigarreau cherry, combined with notes of bitter cocoa, fresh tobacco, sweet spices (ground cumin, coriander seeds, a hint of cinnamon and vanilla), torrefaction (coffee, toasted hazelnut), as well as notes of olive, aromatic herbs (bay leaf, basil, mint) and flowers (rose, lily). The finish is persistent and expresses notes of torrefaction, a fine bitterness of coffee, as well as a salivating acidity, which balances the astringency of the tannins.
