Barboursville Vineyard – Octogone 2016 – Virginia

The nose is elegant, complex and offers a multi-layered side as well as a discreet powdery side. It reveals notes of violet, rhubarb and small notes of camphor associated with touches of small black fruits as well as fine almost smoky hints of anise and Madagascar pepper. The palate is nicely built, fruity, well-balanced, harmonious and offers juiciness, gourmandize, a tangy frame, precision, tension, a beautiful definition as well as a melodious side. On the palate this wine expresses notes of blue plum, cornflower and small notes of camphor associated with touches of graphene, crushed cassis, a hint of small crushed black berries, black tea as well as a subtle toasted hint, roasting and a subtle almost coffee hint. Tannins are sapid and elegant. A certain controlled power.
