The Sicilia DOC confirms its role as a leading player on the international stage

After a busy schedule of events in the U.S. in the first part of the year, the Sicilia DOC Consortium will be in Chicago for Vinitaly.USA in Chicago

Palermo (Sicily), September 24, 2025 – The Sicilia DOC Wine Consortium will be among the key players at the upcoming edition of Vinitaly USA, scheduled for October 5–6 at Navy Pier in Chicago. The event, organized by Veronafiere-Vinitaly in collaboration with ITA – Italian Trade Agency, Italian Fairs, and the Italian American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest, is one of the most important occasions for promoting Italian wine in the U.S. market.

“The Sicilia DOC Wine Consortium is coming to Chicago with the goal of strengthening its connection with the American public and industry professionals, by highlighting the distinctiveness of our denomination,” says Camillo Pugliesi, Director of the Consortium. “Vinitaly USA gives us the opportunity to share our territory and winemaking tradition, promoting values such as authenticity, quality, and sustainability, which U.S. consumers increasingly appreciate. Participation in this important fair is part of the promotional and communication strategy already launched in May with the DOC Sicilia Annual U.S. Road Show, which made stops in Chicago, Houston, Washington D.C., and New York, as well as at the Nantucket Wine & Food Festival. Bringing Sicily to the world means not only presenting a wine, but also conveying culture, history, and vision through tastings, seminars, and public relations activities. The Consortium works tirelessly to bring Sicilia DOC wines into the international circuits of oenological excellence.”

The Consortium will take part in the event with its own stand, offering tasting sessions and insights dedicated to native grape varieties and styles that best embody the contemporary spirit of Sicilian viticulture. Industry professionals, press, and opinion leaders will have the opportunity to taste the island’s signature wines, such as Grillo, Lucido, and Nero d’Avola, true ambassadors of Sicilia DOC and the highest expression of the richness and diversity of Sicily’s winemaking heritage.

Participation in Vinitaly Chicago is part of a broader promotional plan for Sicilia DOC in the U.S., launched earlier this year with the support of Colangelo&Partners. The plan also includes press and trade trips currently taking place in Sicily, featuring winery visits, cultural tours, meetings with producers, and masterclasses led by Jeff Porter, a distinguished wine writer and critic for Wine Enthusiast, one of the most authoritative and influential U.S. wine publications.

The growing interest in the denomination confirms the trend highlighted by the market study commissioned by the Consortium from Colangelo & Partners. The research, which analyzed data from the past two years, shows that Sicilia DOC is perceived by industry professionals as one of the most promising Italian denominations in terms of quality, authenticity, and growth potential—further reinforcing its central role in promoting Italian wine worldwide.
