Tradition and Charme
One of the true certainties among the rolling hills of the Langhe, Trattoria della Posta is tucked away behind a curve on the road from Monforte to Alba. It’s a warm and welcoming place of timeless charm, where the fireplace is always lit on winter days, and in summer, a beautiful terrace offers the perfect spot to watch the sun set gently behind the vineyards.
Here, you feel like a guest in a family home, where hospitality is genuine and the flavors are those of authentic, heartfelt Piedmontese cuisine. One of the most beloved touches is the oversized vertical menu, whose cover features an image of local boys playing pallapugno, a traditional sport symbolic of the Langhe region—a small but meaningful detail that reflects the deep connection to local culture.
Chef and owner Gianfranco Massolino has been at the helm of the trattoria since the 1980s, working alongside his mother Elvira and a close-knit team. He represents the third generation of the Massolino family, who have run this historic establishment for over 130 years. Drawing on extensive experience in both Italian and international fine dining, Gianfranco has breathed new life into the restaurant’s cuisine while remaining faithful to its roots. The recipes, passed down through generations, are reinterpreted with great respect for seasonality and the quality of local ingredients.
Mushrooms and truffles are undisputed stars of the menu, alongside dishes inspired by classic international cuisine, including seafood and foie gras. It’s a culinary approach that highlights local products and traditional flavors, presented with elegance but without excess.
Among the starters, you’ll find traditional vitello tonnato, raw Fassona beef with Castelmagno cheese, onion stuffed with Roccaverano toma cheese, Bra sausage, and the exquisite torchon of foie gras. The pasta dishes include the iconic tajarin with 30 egg yolks, agnolotti del plin, goat cheese ravioli, and potato gnocchi with octopus. Main courses feature crispy Icelandic cod, stuffed quail, Fassona beef fillet with foie gras, and oven-roasted milk-fed lamb. A generous cheese trolley and a delicious selection of traditional desserts complete the experience.
The wine list is extensive and meticulously curated, with a special focus on the great wines of the Langhe while also showcasing outstanding selections from other Italian regions. The sommelier plays a central role, guiding guests with passion and attention to detail, carefully selecting the perfect glass to complement each dish.
