Bordeaux was founded by the Romans in the 1st century AD under the name Burdigala. Since these remote times, it was always a crossroads of trade routes and cultures. Due to its favourable location in the estuary of Gironde, it attracted sailors from all over the world bringing their goods to the city.

The local gastronomy is tightly linked with terroir. Despite the proximity to the Atlantic ocean, Bordeaux is a carnivore place, famous for the local entrecote à la bordelaise, rib steak cooked in a rich gravy made from red (of course, local!) wine, butter, shallots and herbs but also for some other delicious specialities as Lamproie (local fish), pibales or even the “little greys” (snails)!
On the sweet side, we find canelés, a tribute to the colonial trade and the wine-making traditions of the city, made with rum, spices and egg yolks.

Why this map?

We are a team of wine lovers which also means epicureans. During our various trips to the vineyards of the world, we had the opportunity to lunch or dine at the tables of outstanding chefs. We, therefore, wanted to highlight those who offer remarkable cuisine but who have also taken the step of creating a “genuine” wine list.
