The Luxembourg-based GFI investment fund has acquired Château de La Rivière, a landmark wine estate located in Fronsac, on the Right Bank of the Bordeaux wine region. GFI is a private equity fund managed by the Signet Group (signetglobal.com), an international investment management firm with offices in London, Zurich, Limassol, and Abu Dhabi. Signet works closely with entrepreneurs, family offices, and institutional investors. GFI specializes in investments across the food, beverage, and agriculture sectors, with a particular focus on European markets.
This acquisition marks a strategic milestone in Signet’s commitment to preserving France’s viticultural heritage.
Signet has expressed its ambition to safeguard the cultural legacy of the Château while reinvigorating its operations and boosting sales of its renowned Fronsac wines. The group also extends its deepest gratitude to the previous owner, Madame Lau, for her exceptional stewardship of the estate. It is an honor to carry forward the legacy she so carefully preserved.
As part of this new chapter, Signet has appointed Mr. Sébastien Long as President of Château de La Rivière. He will lead the estate’s wine operations and drive a renewed strategic vision for its future.
« I am thrilled to be taking on this new challenge. Despite the current difficult environment, we are confident in the future of the wine industry and Bordeaux wines. We are very proud to carry forward the heritage of this extraordinary estate, Château de La Rivière, and look forward to shaping a future full of opportunity », said Sébastien Long.
Xavier Buffo, long-time director of Château de La Rivière, commented: « I am very pleased to welcome the new investors. They bring fresh momentum and the resources to build on what we’ve started, with a clear vision for modernizing our production and accelerating sales. »
