Barolo 2022: on the upcoming December 6, the profile of the vintage will be revealed

written by Erika Mantovan

Every year, the presentation of a new vintage draws attention and fuels expectations—especially when the subject is Barolo. The 2022 vintage is now facing its first real test: on December 6 2025, at the Regional Enoteca of Barolo, journalists, technicians and producers will examine its profile in preview. An important appointment, especially on the eve of its commercial debut.

This is the spirit of “The Vintage to Come”, the event organized by the Regional Enoteca of Barolo for Saturday, December 6 at 4:30 pm (free admission upon reservation). It’s an opportunity to outline the character of the 2022 vintage ahead of its official release, scheduled for January 1, 2026.

The day is part of the Local is Tasty 2.0 project, funded by the 2023–2027 Piemonte Rural Development Program, involving numerous local producers and set to evolve in 2026 into a series of initiatives dedicated to short supply chains and the enhancement of local products. The event is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Barolo and the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Dogliani.

“After the zero edition in 2024, which introduced a new way of telling the story of Barolo, this first official edition of ‘The Vintage to Come’ aims to become a yearly reference point for the region,” says Cristiana Grimaldi, Director of the Regional Enoteca of Barolo. “It will be a preview of a preview: a moment where oenologists, agronomists, journalists and producers come together to reflect on the nuances of 2022—its climate markers, the strength of the soil, and the identity emerging from each commune.”

The event will feature insights from:
Ian D’Agata, award-winning wine writer, joining live from Shanghai; Sergio Germano, President of the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Dogliani; Michele Longo, wine writer and President of the “A. Cordero” tasting commission; Luca Rostagno, oenotechnician, grower, and meteorology enthusiast; Federico Spanna, agronomist for the Piemonte Region.

Alongside them, the voices of producers from the ten municipal MGAs of Barolo, offering firsthand perspectives on how the 2022 vintage behaved across different terroirs. Moderated by Roberto Fiori (La Stampa).

We will share our impressions of the 2022 vintage with you.
