Barcelona Wine Week 2026 Confirms Its International Expansion

A strategic trade fair strengthening the global positioning and export potential of Spanish wines

Barcelona Wine Week 2026 closed with a highly positive outcome, confirming its growing importance as a key platform for the international promotion of Spanish wines. Held at Fira de Barcelona, the sixth edition of the event stood out for its strong commercial momentum, a significant increase in international buyers, and an impressive level of professional networking.

With 25,953 visitors, the event recorded a 25 percent increase in attendance compared to the previous edition. International visitors represented 20 percent of total attendance and came from more than 70 countries, highlighting the expanding global appeal of the fair. This year’s edition also brought together 1,350 wineries representing 90 Denominations of Origin and quality labels. The diversity of exhibitors, ranging from large well established wineries to small independent producers, reflected the richness and complexity of the Spanish wine sector while underlining its strong export potential. In total, 73 percent of exhibitors participated under the umbrella of a Denomination of Origin, while 27 percent attended under their own brand identity.

One of the major highlights of the 2026 edition was the notable increase in invited international buyers. Organized in collaboration with the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and ICEX Spain Export and Investments, the event welcomed 962 professional buyers from key markets including the United States, Mercosur countries with a particular focus on Brazil, Germany, China, the Netherlands, India and Indonesia. In addition, nearly one thousand national buyers, including specialised distributors, retail buyers and professionals from the Horeca sector, attended the fair. Close to 13,700 business meetings were held, generating thousands of qualified contacts in an environment specifically designed to encourage trade development and support the opening of new export markets.

During the official opening, Minister Luis Planas announced the implementation of an ambitious international promotion strategy aimed at strengthening the presence of Spanish agri food products, particularly wine, in emerging high growth markets such as India, Mercosur and Indonesia.

The event also featured an extensive programme of tastings, conferences and professional discussions involving 138 speakers, including critics, oenologists, Masters of Wine and international experts. Sessions dedicated to the legacy of major family wine dynasties attracted strong interest, alongside the participation of Financial Times wine critic Jancis Robinson.

The economic impact of Barcelona Wine Week on the city of Barcelona is estimated at approximately 17 million euros, confirming the event’s growing role in promoting Spanish wines on the global stage.
