Gabriella Favara is the new President of Assovini Sicilia
Gabriella Favara elected President of Assovini Sicilia: a new generation leading Sicilian wine
A new chapter begins for Assovini Sicilia with the appointment of Gabriella Favara as President of the association representing one hundred of Sicily’s leading wineries. More than a simple leadership change, her election marks an important generational transition within one of Italy’s most influential wine organisations. For the first time, the Board of Directors is made up entirely of members under forty, all coming from the ‘Generazione Next’ project, reflecting the association’s commitment to combining continuity with renewal.
Originally from Marsala, Gabriella Favara is International Marketing Manager at Donnafugata, where she oversees international markets. Holding degrees in Economics and Business Management, including a Master’s from Oxford, she represents a new generation of wine professionals combining international vision with a deep attachment to Sicily.
In her first statement, Favara paid tribute to outgoing President Mariangela Cambria for strengthening the international reputation of Sicilian wines. She intends to build on this legacy while addressing the new challenges facing the wine sector through innovation, sustainability and continued promotion of Sicily’s unique wine heritage. This transition comes as Sicily continues to establish itself among Italy’s most dynamic wine regions. Its volcanic, coastal and mountainous terroirs, native grape varieties and constant pursuit of quality have made the island one of the Mediterranean’s leading wine regions. Assovini Sicilia has played a key role by promoting cooperation, international communication and the identity of Sicilian wines.
The new Board includes representatives from Planeta, Tasca d’Almerita, Tenute Nicosia, Donnafugata, Tenute Navarra, Camporè, Cantine Pellegrino, Dei Principi di Spadafora and Alessandro di Camporeale, represented by Vice-President Pietro Pollara. Together they embody the diversity and ambition of modern Sicilian wine. While continuity remains central to Assovini Sicilia‘s philosophy, this new generation also sends a strong message about the future. Sustainability, innovation, communication and international development will guide the association while preserving the identity, diversity and sense of place that define Sicilian wines.
