Montecucco Confirms Its Momentum and Steps Onto the International Stage
With rising bottlings, export ambitions and strategic events, the Tuscan appellation enters 2026 with confidence.

The Montecucco appellation enters 2026 on a positive note after closing 2025 with strong indicators, confirming the steady growth of this still discreet but increasingly recognised wine territory. Despite a production year marked by several challenges, producers highlight very satisfying quality levels and encouraging commercial performances, notably reflected in a clear increase in bottlings.
In total, Montecucco DOC and DOCG bottled 6,114 hectolitres in 2025, representing growth of 11.1%, equal to approximately 800,000 bottles in the standard 0.75-litre format, in addition to smaller quantities in other formats. This evolution must be viewed within a particular context, as the latest harvest recorded an overall production decrease of 35%. This reduction should, however, be put into perspective, as the 2024 vintage was exceptionally generous in terms of volume. For local producers, this situation does not undermine the structural solidity of the appellation, which continues to gain recognition thanks to the strong identity of its wines.
A dynamic trajectory for this appellation
Montecucco’s performance contrasts with the slight decline observed across Tuscany as a whole. The spectacular increase in bottlings recorded in December 2025, up 393% compared with the same period of the previous year, highlights producers’ confidence in the commercial potential of their wines, often distinguished by their freshness and by the distinctive expression of Sangiovese.
Alongside this economic progress, Montecucco continues to reinforce its environmental commitment. Sustainability, landscape preservation and responsible resource management are key pillars of the producers’ collective philosophy, helping to build a coherent and distinctive identity.
To support its development, the Consorzio Tutela Vini Montecucco continues to implement an active international promotion strategy, notably through European and regional support programmes. The United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and China are among the priority markets, while maintaining a strong presence on the Italian market.
The year 2026 also opens with several major strategic events. Montecucco will participate in Wine Paris for the first time, where five wineries will represent the appellation alongside a vertical tasting reserved for the press. The consortium will also host a tasting area featuring 26 labels, designed to highlight this territory located at the foot of Monte Amiata, still relatively unexplored by the wider public. A few days later, the appellation will also be present at L’Altra Toscana in Florence, an increasingly essential event for international professionals, showcasing Tuscan territories with strong identities.
