With TWOOD, OENEO is reinventing the French oak barrel, making it durable and accessible to as many people as possible.
Innovation, quality, accessibility. In three words, TWOOD sums up a discreet but essential revolution for wine professionals: offering a genuine French oak barrel at an affordable price, without compromising on the fundamentals of aging. An exclusive and patented solution offered by the OENEO Group, born from the complementarity of two areas of expertise – cooperage and cabinetmaking – to meet the economic and technical challenges of producers.
In a market under pressure, between soaring production costs, pressure on forest resources, and the need for agility, TWOOD arrives at just the right time. Its promise is clear: to offer winegrowers a simple, high-quality, and innovative solution.
An agile solution in a changing market
Designed to simplify producers’ lives, TWOOD breaks the mold with a limited range – a single 225-liter size, four toasts, a standard hooping plan – and online distribution. In a context where visibility is reduced, the TWOOD store allows you to order barrels in just a few clicks, according to your actual needs, after harvesting. It’s an agile, direct, and efficient response to a changing market.
“TWOOD focuses on the fundamentals of a barrel: aesthetics, oxygenation, and organoleptic orientation. The majority of wine producers need simplification and a simple, understandable, and flexible offering, and TWOOD will meet this need,” summarizes Magdeleine ALLAUME, member of the OENEO Executive Committee.
But behind this apparent simplicity, TWOOD hides a technical trick proven through numerous tests: a unique process for mechanically assembling two-layer staves, inspired by cabinetmaking. Thanks to this technology, it is now possible to use woods previously excluded from traditional barrel production – not for their organoleptic benefits, but rather due to grain defects.
Better use of French oak
The challenge is crucial: due to climate change, straight-grained oak is becoming scarce, making barrel production more expensive. TWOOD addresses this issue with a smart and sustainable solution that leverages a greater proportion of French oak logs without compromising the requirements of barrel aging. “TWOOD restores the full value of a precious local resource; the solution is sustainable and without compromising performance,” says Magdeleine ALLAUME.
Thanks to its two-layer structure, the TWOOD barrel ensures the availability of this age-old aging tool while respecting the key balances of aging: oxygenation management, aromatic orientation, and quality tannin content. By using fine- and medium-grained staves from French forests, it allows for rigorous selection, but is more available, more sustainable… and more economical.
New flexibility for producers
With TWOOD, winegrowers—whether independent or part of large groups—have a reliable, flexible, and competitive aging tool. At a time when every purchase counts, this solution gives them the freedom to adjust their volumes as close as possible to the harvest, while maintaining a high level of technical excellence. Simplify without impoverishing, innovate without compromising, make accessible without sacrificing quality: this is TWOOD’s promise. By reconciling economic performance, traditional aesthetics, and respect for resources, this new generation of barrels could well be a game-changer.
