An exclusive 1995 Springbank 30-Year-Old Refill Sherry Butt will take center stage at Bonhams’ forthcoming spirits auctions, reinforcing the house’s status as Scotland’s only global whisky auctioneer. The sales are split into two key events: A Campbeltown Legend: 1995 Springbank – Rare Sherry Cask (online, 22 September – 14 October) and Curated Spirits: A Belgian Collection Unlocked & Other Rarities (Edinburgh, 22 September – 7 October).
The rare cask, filled in May 1995 at Springbank Distillery and stored ever since in J.&A. Mitchell’s Warehouse No.5, stands as a testament to authenticity and provenance. A recent regauge in July 2025 showed a strength of 53.6% ABV, yielding 392.6 bulk litres and over 550 potential bottles at 70cl. Online bidding will open at £160,000, with estimates between £200,000 and £300,000.
Patricia Byott, recently appointed Head of Spirits, Scotland at Bonhams, commented:
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a cask from one of the world’s most unique and celebrated single malt distilleries. With full provenance documentation dating back to 1995 and cask samples available, collectors can bid with confidence.”
Alongside the headline cask, the Curated Spirits auction will feature over 190 lots of exceptional whiskies and rare spirits, including a prestigious single-owner Belgian collection. Highlights include:
-
The Macallan Tales of Macallan Volume 1, 71 Year Old (£36,000 – £40,000)
-
The Macallan 50 Year Old Red Collection (£22,000 – £28,000)

With its largest UK spirits auction of 2025, Bonhams continues to expand its influence in the secondary whisky market and confirm Edinburgh as a global hub for rare spirits sales.
