Vouni Panayia – The Rebel Maratheftiko, 2024, Paphos/ Cyprus

The wine has a beautiful deep cherry color. The first nose is a little closed and very herbal, like wild fennel. There is a slight reduction: the wine needs a little air. The second nose is fresh and powerful with a slight note of alcohol present in the background. There is ripe, juicy black cherry. The palate is round on the attack with a slight sweetness. There are notes of juicy cherry and fresh blackberry. The tannins are powerful, present, and grippy, even if softer on the finish. There are notes of rose, juicy cherry, and vegetal hints. The finish has a hint of cumin.
