Château Angélus – Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

Château Angélus – Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

(60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc) The nose is elegant, frank and fresh. It has a lovely floral side, with fine hints of sweet spices and a velvety, melodious, airy side. It reveals notes of violet, fresh blackberry and small notes of small ripe wild red berries, associated with touches of cubeb pepper, a subtle hint of clove, lilac and Bourbon vanilla, as well as a subtle hint of sweet licorice and a delicate hint of small, pulpy blue berries. A very discreet, almost sappy hint in the background. The palate is beautifully fresh, fruity and balanced. It presents a fresh, velvety, enveloping/coating frame, gourmandise, a tangy frame, precision, lovely energy and a fine, chiselled side, all in finesse/accuracy and offering lovely finesse and definition of racy grain. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy/pulpy cassis, cornflower and small notes of crushed strawberry, combined with touches of pulpy blueberry, as well as fine hints of small fresh/juicy fruits, fine notes of roasted almond, toasted almond, a hint of nutmeg and a subtle hint of almost mandarin and nicely chocolatey. A subtle hint of sweet tobacco. Good length. Lovely mellowness and breed of tannins. Nice little concentration, finesse and control. A wine with lovely finesse and delicacy in its structure and substance. Classic freshness, acidity and balance. A fresh, juicy, tangy fruit, offering brilliance and a very discreet, almost roasted-juicy hint of fruit in the background. A subtle, almost sappy hint on the finish/persistence.
