On Friday, June 20, 2025, during the bicentenary celebration held at the Château du Clos de Vougeot, the Faiveley family announced the donation of a parcel of Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru vineyard to the Hospices de Beaune.
Gathered in the Salon du Grand Conseil of the Château du Clos de Vougeot, Eve and Erwan Faiveley, owners of the eponymous Domaine, officially signed the donation in the presence of Guillaume Koch, Director of the Hospices Civils de Beaune, and Ludivine Griveau-Gemma, Estate Manager of the Hospices de Beaune.
Planted in 1974, this vineyard—covering a little over 4 ouvrées (approx. 0.17 hectares)—will allow the Hospices to produce three barrels of wine per vintage. This new cuvée will make its debut at the 165th Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction on November 17, 2025, under the name “Clos de Vougeot, cuvée François Faiveley”, in tribute to François Faiveley (1859–1918) and François Faiveley (1951–), respectively the 3rd and 6th generations of the family to lead the estate.
Erwan Faiveley stated: “As co-owners of the Château du Clos de Vougeot and founding family of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, headquartered in this very château, we are proud and delighted to offer a part of this exceptional heritage to the hospital. We share with the Hospices de Beaune a commitment to high-quality viticulture, organically farmed, and are confident that their team will continue to preserve and enhance this beautiful terroir.”
Guillaume Koch commented: “On behalf of the Hospices Civils de Beaune, I would like to warmly thank the Faiveley family for this extraordinary gift. Beyond showing their attachment to our institution, this act continues a long tradition of charity and generosity that defines our hospital’s history. Few hospitals receive such donations, highlighting the unique nature of Beaune. We recognize the dedication of Domaine Faiveley to producing great wines and will, of course, continue in this spirit. This donation will generate new revenue, which will be used to improve patient care and staff working conditions. It powerfully illustrates the vitality of a living heritage—carried forward by values of humanity and commitment—and represents a sincere and lasting bond between our two institutions. A bond that honors our shared history and prepares for the future.”
Ludivine Griveau-Gemma added: “It is with deep emotion that the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune receives this remarkably generous donation of a parcel from such a prestigious appellation. It reflects the Faiveley family’s profound attachment to our institution and now becomes an eternal link in our shared histories. We are deeply honored by this gesture of trust from Eve and Erwan’s family. Rest assured we will do everything in our power to be worthy of it and to produce an exceptional Clos de Vougeot in service of our hospital’s mission. As Estate Manager, what a joy to witness such a moment—THANK YOU. Thank you for your trust, your ongoing presence at our charity auction, and this symbolic donation in every sense.”
Eve Faiveley concluded: “We have always been dedicated to promoting Burgundy through our wines, just as the Hospices do through the annual wine auction held every November in the Beaune market hall. With this in mind, we wanted to establish a lasting relationship with this remarkable institution and mark our 200th anniversary with this donation—an act focused on the future.”
Domaine Faiveley
Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the heart of Burgundy, the Faiveley family owns over 120 hectares of vineyards spread across the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, and Côte Chalonnaise, including 12 Grands Crus and 22 Premiers Crus. Founded in 1825, the Domaine is now led by Eve and Erwan Faiveley, the 7th generation. Together, they craft wines that combine power, finesse, and elegance while showcasing the richness of their terroirs. In July 2022, Domaine Faiveley began converting to organic viticulture, with certification expected in July 2025, marking the estate’s bicentenary.
About the Hospices de Beaune
The Hospices de Beaune were founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor of the Duke of Burgundy, and his wife Guigone de Salins, to provide care for the sick and the poor. Today, the Hôtel-Dieu of the Hospices de Beaune is a living heritage site of Burgundy. Its flamboyant Gothic architecture and glazed tile roofs are iconic symbols of the region. The Hospices Civils de Beaune remain a public health institution encompassing four sites—Beaune, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Arnay-le-Duc, and Seurre—serving a population of over 110,000 with 988 beds and places.
The Hospices’ vineyard estate, built over centuries through donations, spans over 60 hectares in some of Burgundy’s most prestigious appellations, from Chablis to Pouilly-Fuissé. More than 85% of the vineyard is classified as Premier Cru or Grand Cru, comprising 86 different Climats across over 120 parcels. These produce 51 cuvées, each reflecting its unique identity and honoring the institution’s benefactors. The “Cuvée François Faiveley” with Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru will now join this prestigious collection.
Each year, the Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction supports charitable causes and the healthcare mission of the hospital, benefitting the local population.
