Viticcio Prunaio 2019 – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

(organic) The wine has a deep ruby color, with slight garnet reflections. The nose offers density and a silky, concentrated texture, with sweet notes of chocolate morello cherry, ripe red cherry (even cherry jam), crushed blackcurrant, wild strawberry and crushed raspberry, combined with a delicate tertiary hint of dried rose, tobacco and undergrowth, aromas of roasting (coffee, toasted almond, heated wood, cocoa), spices (vanilla, a hint of cinnamon, liquorice, tonka bean). There is also a fragrant floral bouquet (peony, cornflower, fresh rose) and menthol notes of wild mint and rosemary syrup. The palate is chiseled, straight and slender, with a powdery, cocoa attack, combined with a mineral framework of graphite, dry earth and limestone. We then find notes of dried red cherry, ripe morello cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry and cranberry in the background, combined with spicy notes (liquorice, nutmeg, white pepper, tonka bean) and roasted notes (coffee, toasted almond, toasted wood). The finish is quite persistent and expresses pronounced tertiary notes (tobacco, undergrowth, dried rose) and herbaceous notes (dried mint, bay leaf, rosemary). Beautiful salivating acidity, with a tangy touch of red cherry. The tannins are cocoa, enveloping and powdery. Tension and concentration in this wine, which seems to have closed.
