The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is warm and gourmand, with an expressive spicy and toasty opening and a fruity, fleshy, even roasted substance. It expresses notes of spices for mulled wine – vanilla (or even cinnamon), liquorice, star anise and cardamom – combined with ripe and sweet fruits (crushed wild strawberry, raspberry coulis), crushed morello cherry, red cherry jam, as well as crushed black plum (or even chocolate prunes) and sweet black grape. There are also notes of toasted hazelnut, toasted wood, roasted bouquet garni and sweet wild mint, combined with a hint of fresh peony and dried rose in the background. The palate is precise, mellow, cocoa-flavored, with fine, slightly chalky tannins and perfectly balanced flavors. It first expresses notes of dark chocolate with mint, roasted bouquet garni, a tertiary hint of dried tobacco, dried rose and undergrowth, as well as savory spices (licorice, vanilla, star anise, cardamom, cinnamon), wrapped in ripe and roasted fruits (roasted red cherry, crushed morello cherry, chocolate morello cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry coulis). The acidity is supple, but brings freshness. Good length with a smoky touch. A gourmet, fleshy and harmonious wine.
