The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose needs aeration to open up. It then expresses notes of roasted red cherry, crushed morello cherry, wild raspberry, as well as dark chocolate, roasting (toasted hazelnut, a hint of coffee), aromatic herbs (dried bouquet garni, a touch of hay) and spices (white pepper, a very light hint of nutmeg and liquorice). There is also a racy minerality (limestone, slightly metallic) and notes of fresh flowers (rose petals, peony). The palate is airy, juicy and gourmand. It expresses notes of tart cherry, cranberry, crushed raspberry and blueberry, combined with spicy flavors (nutmeg, liquorice), a touch of toast (toasted hazelnut, chocolate, toasted wood in the background), dried bouquet garni and rose petals. The tannins are robust, but fine. The finish is savory, persistent and offers notes of morello cherry, bitter cocoa and raspberry, as well as a salivating acidity.
