Poderi Moretti Barbaresco 2020 – Barbaresco

Poderi Moretti Barbaresco 2020 – Barbaresco

The wine has a pale ruby color. On the nose, it is reserved and requires aeration. It then expresses a juicy fruity material with a hint of maceration (fresh red cherry, dried red cherry, macerated cherry, crushed strawberry, fresh cranberries), a pronounced spiciness, with dominant liquorice-like notes (liquorice stick, even star anise, a hint of nutmeg and white pepper). We also find flowers (dried rose, faded peony, fresh violet) and a fine toasted hint (toasted almond, a hint of coffee). The palate is expressive and savoury, with notes of roasting and a good bitterness (coffee, toasted almond) and spices (nutmeg, white pepper, liquorice) on the attack. Then, we smell the fresh and tangy fruits (cranberries, sour cherry, strawberry, macerated morello cherry, raspberry, fresh cherry), floral notes (dried rose, faded peony) and a hint of herbs (wet leaves, tobacco, crushed mint). The finish is juicy and fruity, quite persistent. Tannins are fine, but grippy and dry on the attack, softened by a salivating acidity (but must still melt with time). Juiciness and good structure.
