Josetta Saffirio Barolo Ravera 2020 – Barolo

The wine has a pale ruby color, with slight garnet reflections. The nose offers tension, a fine toasted side and freshness, but seems closed and requires aeration. It then expresses notes of tart red cherry, morello cherry, crushed raspberry, acidulous strawberry, blueberry and blackberry, combined with a refined herbaceous hint (fresh wild mint, fresh tea leaf), a floral bouquet (fresh rose petals, fresh peony) and delicate spicy notes (liquorice, cardamom) and roasted (dark chocolate in the background, toasted hazelnut). After aeration, we also find notes of prunes, which add gourmandise and a touch of sweetness to the bouquet. The palate is precise, straight and tangy. The attack is fruity and fresh – on notes of red cherry, raspberry and cranberries. Then we find notes of morello cherry, raspberry and strawberry, combined with sweet spices (liquorice, cardamom, a very slight peppery hint), tangy and chocolatey cocoa nibs, as well as herbs (wild mint, fresh tea leaf). Tannins are fine, slightly grippy and well structured. The finish is persistent, tangy and fruity – on notes of morello cherry, red cherry and crushed red plum, combined with a hint of good bitterness of grapefruit and cocoa. Beautiful salivating acidity and lots of energy.
