Monchiero Barolo del Comune di Morra 2021 – Barolo

Monchiero Barolo del Comune di Morra 2021 – Barolo

The wine has a pale ruby color with very slight garnet reflections. The nose is mineral at the start (limestone, dry stone), but is complemented by ripe and juicy fruits after aeration – morello cherry, red cherry (even with a hint of macerated cherry), crushed wild strawberry, raspberry (more reminiscent of raspberry coulis) and blackcurrant, as well as dried fruits (dried blackcurrant, dried cherry). There are also spicy aromas (liquorice, crushed cardamom, a very light touch of star anise in the background), as well as fresh almond, lightly toasted wood and subtle hints of fresh rose and pine needles. The palate is tasty, tense and chiseled. On the attack, it expresses tangy fruits, with the sweetness less present than on the nose (red cherry, raspberry, cranberries, red currants), as well as a good bitterness of grapefruit zest. Then, we find notes of liquorice, white pepper, a hint of black plum, as well as a sappy hint of pine bark and pine needles. A pleasant touch of toasted hazelnut and fresh almond appears on the persistence. Good length on a bitterness of grapefruit and toasted almond and a salivating acidity. Tannins are grippy, slightly drying – the wine still needs to evolve to melt them.
