Carlo Revello & Figli, Boiolo 2021 – Barolo

The wine has a pale ruby color with slight garnet reflections. The nose is reserved, but opens up after aeration. It offers juiciness and gourmandize of red fruit and expresses notes of ripe wild strawberry, morello cherry, juicy red cherry, crushed raspberry, combined with a mineral hint of tar (distinct, but enveloped), dried peony, rose, as well as sweet spices (liquorice, nutmeg, white pepper, a delicate hint of star anise), aromatic herbs (dried thyme, dried mint, dried bay leaf), a touch of toasted hazelnut and bitter cocoa, as well as a hint of hay in the background. The palate is taut, even tight, with sharp acidity and a good bitterness of cranberries. It also expresses flavors of bigarreau cherry, tart raspberry, fresh cherry, red currants, as well as dried aromatic herbs (dried bay leaf, dried thyme, dried mint), a mineral hint of tar, notes of tobacco, dried rose, white pepper, liquorice and nutmeg. Tannins are structured, slightly grippy, but not dry and have a fine grain. The finish is quite persistent, with a lively acidity and a smoky and bitter touch of grapefruit and bergamot.
