Joseph Mellot, La Grande Châtelaine 2022 – Sancerre

Joseph Mellot, La Grande Châtelaine 2022 – Sancerre

The wine has a pale lemon yellow color. The nose is fleshy, juicy, complex and intense. It expresses notes of ripe and fresh yellow fruits (yellow peach, apricot), ripe citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit), candied lemon peel, crushed green apple, acacia, as well as a delicate and integrated lactic touch (fresh butter, brown butter) associated with notes of toasted brioche, toasted hazelnut and vanilla, complemented by a mineral framework of limestone. The palate is savory, enveloping, with a gourmet and round texture. The attack offers flavors of juicy stone fruits (yellow peach, crushed apricot), as well as a chiseled side of ripe citrus fruits (yellow lemon, blood orange, a good bitterness of grapefruit), crushed green apple and gooseberries. Then, the wine expresses flavors of white flowers (acacia, linden), honey, toasted brioche, as well as a lactic touch (brown butter, lemon yogurt) and wood (toasted hazelnut). Beautiful salivating acidity and a good length with a balancing bitterness.
