Castello di Meleto, Trebbio 2019 – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

The wine has a pale ruby color. The nose offers ripe, gourmand fruit, complemented by sweet spices, herbaceous freshness and a touch of dark chocolate. It expresses aromas of ripe wild strawberry, crushed raspberry, wild blackberry, cranberry jam, ripe red plum, morello cherry, bigarreau cherry, licorice, clove, a touch of toasted hazelnut and smoke, refreshing aromas of peppermint, menthol and pine needles, as well as fresh flowers (cornflower, violet, wild rose). There’s also a hint of minerality (limestone) and a touch of leather, cocoa and fresh tobacco in the background. The palate offers juiciness and crisp fruit (wild strawberry, wild blackberry, fresh bigarreau cherry, fresh raspberry, fresh cassis, a touch of bitterness from cranberries and pink grapefruit in the background), associated with notes of sweet spices (cumin, licorice, a touch of toasted vanilla), toasted hazelnut in the background, the smoky side of bergamot, as well as floral (violet, wild rose, cornflower) and herbaceous (peppermint, cut rosemary) notes. Firm tannins with a fine, elegant texture. Good acidity on the finish, good persistence of bitterness and freshness. A wine with complexity, fruit and structure, but closed at the moment.
