Ruffino, Romitorio di Santedame 2019 – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

Ruffino, Romitorio di Santedame 2019 – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity, with slight garnet reflections. The nose is refined and subtle, but deep and complex. It expresses notes of roasted red cherry, fresh morello cherry, dried morello cherry, wild strawberry, crushed blueberry, wild blackberry, dried blackcurrant. We also find aromas of dried mint, cut rosemary, basil, bay leaf, hay and wild flowers, fresh tobacco which bring freshness and elegance. The notes of torrefaction and sweet spices are very fine and integrated: there are notably touches of ground cumin, sweet coffee, liquorice (or even star anise), toast and a very slight hint of caramel in the background. The palate is silky, but concentrated and straight. The tannins are melted and velvety, ample and give the wine an elegant structure. There is a nice concentration of fruits and complexity. We find notes of wild strawberry, roasted red cherry, dried red cherry, morello cherry, crushed blueberry, wild blackberry, completed by notes of cocoa, sweet coffee, tobacco, dried basil, dried mint, liquorice, star anise and violet. The finish is long, warm and fresh at the same time thanks to a harmonious combination of notes of cocoa, sweet spices (cinnamon, cumin) and a beautiful acidity. Elegance, fleshiness, all in balance.
