Casaloste 2018 – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

Casaloste 2018 – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

The nose is fragrant, spicy and gourmand, with subtle tertiary notes. The first nose expresses notes of dark chocolate, liquorice, vanilla, a very light touch of cinnamon in the background, which are then completed by notes of tobacco, wet leaves, cedar and a discreet touch of undergrowth. The second nose offers notes of dried red fruits (dried cherry, dried strawberry), red fruit jam (tart red cherry jam) as well as crushed blackcurrant and blueberry, associated with notes of dried mint, dried basil, oregano, black tapenade and balsamic. The palate offers concentration, smoothness, roundness and controlled power of tannins. We find notes of cherry in chocolate, prunes in chocolate, ripe purple fig (in the background), wild blackberry, blackcurrant jam (or even crème de cassis), ripe morello cherry and wild strawberry, associated with touches of sweet spices (roasted vanilla, cinnamon, cloves), dried flowers (rose, wildflowers, cornflower), as well as delicate notes of torrefaction (coffee, toasted hazelnut). The tannins are firm, very fine and sapid, with a velvety texture and a touch of chocolate. The finish is persistent and complex: it first expresses gourmand notes of chocolate cherry which are complemented by a good bitterness of coffee and notes of dried mint. Beautiful acidity, freshness, gourmandise and complexity. A concentrated and deep wine, which will continue to develop.
