Borgo Scopetto 2016 – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity, with garnet reflections. On the nose, the wine is discreet and requires aeration. It first expresses delicate tertiary notes (undergrowth, even mushrooms, wet leaves, wilted rose), which then combine with notes of sweet spices (nutmeg, cumin, liquorice), tea with bergamot, dried flowers (dried peony, dried violet), dried red fruits (cranberries, red cherry). We also find freshness, brought by notes of fresh fruit (morello cherry, red cherry, wild strawberry, black fig) and fresh herbs (basil, thyme, bay leaf, a smoky hint of oregano) and a slight sweetness of cocoa. On the palate, the wine has fresh and tangy flavors on the attack, which develop towards notes of dried herbs (mint, basil), spices (ground cumin, cloves, licorice), cocoa and dried flowers (rose, wild flowers). The finish is quite long and expresses more the tertiary notes of mushrooms and undergrowth, integrated into a bouquet of ripe and dried red fruits. The tannins are firm and give the wine a good structure. A salivating acidity and good palatability on the finish help soften their certain astringency. A full-bodied and powerful wine, but with a certain finesse.
