Mazzei, Castello Fonterutoli, Vicoregio 36, Castelnuovo Berardenga 2020 – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is fragrant and offers intensity and complexity. The first nose expresses distinct resinous notes (pine sap, pine needles), as well as a touch of balsamic, which are complemented in the second nose by notes of sweet spices (fresh licorice, cumin, toasted vanilla, seeds of crushed coriander, cinnamon in the background), herbs (dried mint, basil, thyme, sage), flowers (dried rose, violet, lilac) and ripe fruits (morello cherry, black plum, crushed blackcurrant, red cherry, red currant, crushed raspberry, wild strawberry), cocoa and torrefaction (toasted oak, mild coffee). On the palate, the attack is gourmand, fruity and suave, in the mid-palate, the wine expresses the power of the tannins and their fine and delicate texture at the same time. We find the flavors of dried red cherry, ripe morello cherry, wild plum, crushed blackcurrant, crushed raspberry, wild strawberry and the bitterness of cranberries, combined with a smoky and slightly bitter touch of bergamot, coffee, with a herbaceous touch (dried mint, thyme, oregano), spicy (crushed coriander seeds, white pepper, liquorice, toasted vanilla, ground cumin) and a floral touch (dried rose). The finish is persistent and expresses the dryness of the young tannins, as well as a nice salivating acidity that helps to balance them. A straight wine, which offers accuracy and firmness.
