Borgo Salcetino, Lucarello 2019 – Chianti Classico Riserva

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is rather reserved – the wine benefits from being airated. It then expresses the gourmand aromas of wild strawberry, morello cherry, red cherry jam, red currant jelly, crushed blackberry and crushed blackcurrant, combined with notes of cherry in chocolate, dark chocolate with mint, dried mint, sweet spices (liquorice, clove, a hint of star anise and vanilla), fresh flowers (rose, peony), as well as a very light touch of caramelised hazelnut in the background, accompanied by a hint of tobacco and a tertiary note of faded rose in the background. On the palate, the wine expresses youthful fruity and tangy flavors (fresh morello cherry, crunchy strawberry, raspberry coulis, crushed blackcurrant, crushed wild blackberry), associated with some spiciness (licorice, a hint of vanilla), chocolate hint (cherry in chocolate), herbaceous (peppermint) and floral (fresh peony, rose) notes. The tannins are firm and grippy on attack. The finish is lively, tangy, juicy and persistent, with a gourmand note of ripe red cherry. A chiseled, structured wine, with nice energy.
